For parents

Information for parents.

Medical degrees are demanding, and students sometimes need support beyond their course. Parents often help to arrange and fund that support. This page sets out what the service is, when it tends to help, and how it works.

What it is

One-to-one online sessions with experienced advisors — qualified doctors, academics and senior students. Most sessions use Problem-Based Learning, a method used in medical schools; advisors also provide tutoring on a specific topic or difficulty.

When it helps

When a student is finding a particular subject difficult, preparing for an assessment, or wanting to strengthen their clinical reasoning. It is supplementary to university teaching, not a replacement for it.

How it works

One-hour sessions, online over Microsoft Teams, taken individually or shared with one or two other students. For a PBL session the student prepares a case beforehand; tutoring is arranged around the topic the student needs.

Cost

Prices depend on the advisor, from £45 per session with a student advisor, and lower per person when a session is shared. The Pricing page gives full detail.
